07.17.06 - Monday Update
Today’s ministry was as exciting as it was diverse. We started off the morning with a passionate call to share the gospel with the Jew first…and also to the Greek. Dr. Jones joined us for group devotions and called us not to forget the Jews! Afterwords we practiced our choir music to keep it fresh in our minds (tomorrow is our first sound service in the city.) The music practice went great, and we headed out to the park across teh street. It was lunch time for a lot of people, so the park was full of people sitting on benches, on the grass, and enjoying the park. We passed out tracts and sat down with people. God gave us some great doors for the gospel. Many of the groups were able to share a complete gospel with the persons they were talking with. I heard alot of “Can we do that again, Pastor Jon” comments. They really enjoyed the fact that people were just sitting there…that you could go up and talk to them. After an hour, we met back up and headed back into the Angel House for lunch. We had a blast relaying stories back and forth, and after lunch,
we stopped just to rejoice in what God was doing. We shared and shared testimonies of peoples responses and how that was changing us. It was a good time. By the way, the temperature today got up to 98. That is hot on asphalt. Anyways, we had the East River Sports Day scheduled for today. We inflated our big ball, filled trash cans with ice and cokes, gathered some balls and cones and headed 3 blocks away. The permit we had was for a park right next to a water play area for kids. As we walked up, we saw kids everywhere. It was great! We started inviting kids to come over to play with us, and thier leader was fairly adamant about not allowing anything Bible or church whatsoever. We prayed, and I went over and asked if the kids could play with us, I would share that we are from out of town and we are all aobut these bracelets that we have on…you can ask us about them if you want to know more. After some talking and discussing, he siad that would be okay. We rounded up kids to play with us. Everybody finally with us, we had 30-40 kids come by and play with us. We played for a while, then gave out the cokes and just started talking. God gave alot of us great oppurtunities. Many of the kids asked about what we were about, what the bracelets were, and who we were. We shared Christ with them as they askjed the questions. Click here to see the pictures from the sports day. lt was a great thing to watch! God did an awesome thing there today! We packed up, said goodbye to the kids and headed for dinner. A shower and a meal was all we needed, and we headed back out after dinner. We hit Rockefeller Center, St. Patricks Cathedral, Fifth ave, and siome stops along the way. We saw the big buildings side of new york tonight. Thanks for your prayers today, they were evident in God’s working!
Pray tomorrow for:
Our outreach to Battery Park.
We have a sound permit, and this is the first time Bill Jones has ever done a sound service in Battery Park. Pray for powerful singing, the holy spirits enabling, good voices, and people that will listen.
Our times witnessing one-to-one.
Pray that God will burden us for it at home. Pray that God will save some! Pray for doors of utterance.
